Getting Personal About Embryonic Stem Cell Research

As you know, two days ago (March 9) President Barak Obama fulfilled a campaign promise by signing an executive order authorizing the use of tax-dollars for embryo-destructive research on embryonic stem cells. This order effectively lifted restrictions on the use of federal funds for this research.

The President hailed the order as “an important step in advancing the cause of science in America.” He described it as being “about letting scientists like those here today do their jobs, free from manipulation or coercion and listening to what they tell us, even when it’s inconvenient–especially when it’s inconvenient.”

Red Envelope Day

If you read the comment on my Monday blog you saw where my former all-star editorial assistant, Tanya Carden, wrote about Red Envelope Day. Red Envelope Day is a pro-life effort asking thousands (millions?) of people to send a red envelope to President Barak Obama at The White House on March 31, 2009 in support of the victims of the abortion holocaust.

Each envelope should have the following statement written on the back: “This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was take is now unable to be a part of our world. Responsibility begins with conception.”

Sounds like a good idea to me, even though it is unlikely to change the President’s position on the issue. It does, however, vividly depict the reality that abortion has taken the lives of millions of young Americans–a reality resulting from our nation’s idolatrous pursuit of sex with any one we choose, any time we choose, without consequences.
