Pet Airways–Fido Has His Own Airline

July 15, 2009 - 2:43 pm 1 Comment

petsI love most dogs. Chihuahua’s, not so much. I can even tolerate you having a cat. (Just don’t bring him in my yard or house.) I’ve even been known to take a pooch on a trip a time or two, usually because I couldn’t afford to board it. But would I buy Lola a ticket on her own plane? No.

I read today, however, about Pet Airways–a company that is betting its business on the fact that many people will do exactly that. Pet Airways is an airline designed just for pets. (Visit their website here.) No more flying in a crate in the cargo hold, these pets fly in the cabin under the watchful eye of a pet attendant who checks them every 15 minutes during the flight. While you fly your own commercial airline, your pet flies its own airline to the same destination.

It works like this: You take “Spunky” to the airport and drop him off at their Pet Lounge at least 2 hours before take off. Less than two hours before his flight leaves, Spunky gets a potty break. At the specified time, he boards his plane (in a pet carrier provided by the airline, of course) and is secured in the well-ventilated, comfort-controlled cabin. During the flight, the Pet Attendant diligently ensures Spunky’s comfort. At your final destination, Spunky gets another potty break and you pick him up at the Pet Lounge knowing he has traveled in safety and comfort. If you can’t pick him up that day, they will even board him overnight at the PAWS Lounge.

Getting Personal About Embryonic Stem Cell Research

March 11, 2009 - 10:55 am No Comments

As you know, two days ago (March 9) President Barak Obama fulfilled a campaign promise by signing an executive order authorizing the use of tax-dollars for embryo-destructive research on embryonic stem cells. This order effectively lifted restrictions on the use of federal funds for this research.

The President hailed the order as “an important step in advancing the cause of science in America.” He described it as being “about letting scientists like those here today do their jobs, free from manipulation or coercion and listening to what they tell us, even when it’s inconvenient–especially when it’s inconvenient.”

Red Envelope Day

If you read the comment on my Monday blog you saw where my former all-star editorial assistant, Tanya Carden, wrote about Red Envelope Day. Red Envelope Day is a pro-life effort asking thousands (millions?) of people to send a red envelope to President Barak Obama at The White House on March 31, 2009 in support of the victims of the abortion holocaust.

Each envelope should have the following statement written on the back: “This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was take is now unable to be a part of our world. Responsibility begins with conception.”

Check it out for yourself here.

Sounds like a good idea to me, even though it is unlikely to change the President’s position on the issue. It does, however, vividly depict the reality that abortion has taken the lives of millions of young Americans–a reality resulting from our nation’s idolatrous pursuit of sex with any one we choose, any time we choose, without consequences.

The Mighty Pen

February 12, 2009 - 7:31 am 1 Comment

“The pen is mightier than the sword.” That familiar adage was coined by Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839 for his play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy. The truth of those words has been demonstrated time after time. But the pen is never mightier than when it unleashes the sword.

This fact was proven once again when newly-elected President Barak Obama signed an executive order reversing the so-called Mexico City policy that prohibited U.S. foreign aid from being used to fund abortions. With the stroke of a pen, President Obama unleashed the sword on millions of unborn children worldwide.

One War “Ended,” Deadlier One Continues

January 29, 2009 - 8:14 am No Comments

For the first time since I started blogging, I let Sanctity of Human Life (SOHL) Week go by without a post addressing the issue of abortion. Although SOHL week was last week, two things have motivated me to address it today.

First, I read an article about President Obama’s interview on Arab television in which he took a more conciliatory position toward the problems of the Middle East. The writer concluded that what he was really saying is that the war on terror is over.

A few moments before, I had watched the video below in which John Piper directed a message to President Obama about the other war–the one that kills a million Americans every year. That war hasn’t ended. Piper does a good job of reminding us of that fact. I hope you will watch the video and pray for our nation that one day this war against our most defenseless citizens will come to an end.

Paying Attention

September 29, 2008 - 10:12 am No Comments

I was reminded again last week of the importance of paying attention when reading purported “news” stories. “The Changing Face of Abortion,” a Newsweek web exclusive (9-23-08), addressed the fact that although abortion rates have been steadily dropping since the 1980s, especially among teens, women having abortions today are older and more likely to be mothers and minorities.

While the article was neither groundbreaking nor particularly significant, I couldn’t help but notice the sources quoted. Statistics came from the “nonprofit, nonpartisan Guttmacher Institute.” Experts quoted came from Planned Parenthood and the National Organization of Women (NOW).

Ape Rights

July 7, 2008 - 3:26 pm No Comments

Have you read about the Spanish Parliament being on the verge of granting almost-human rights to chimps, gorillas, orangutans, and bonobos? A resolution was approved by the environmental committee of Spain’s legislature to embrace the Great Apes Project, a campaign designed to grant apes the right to life, freedom, and no torture. According to news reports, the measure is supported by a majority in parliament and is expected to pass.

Habitat for Planned Parenthood?

June 2, 2008 - 9:09 am 2 Comments

Saw a frustrating bit of news over the weekend. Habitat for Humanity, a Christian group that has built homes around the country for the poor, is selling land in Sarasota, FL to Planned Parenthood for just $10. According to Focus on the Family, PP will use the land for the construction of an abortion clinic.

The Dirtiest Joke Ever Played on Women

January 22, 2008 - 9:20 am 1 Comment

Today is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized abortion in the U.S. Fittingly, pro-life supporters have dubbed this Sanctity of Human Life Week. If you’re a regular reader, you know I’ve been posting about abortion for the past few days. This post continues that trend.

Sanctity of Human Life Week concerns more than just saving babies. It also includes saving Mommies. The sexual revolution is the dirtiest joke ever played on women. Women were told that the birth control pill and the legalization of abortion would set them free to enjoy the kind of carefree sexual expression the boys enjoyed.

What Motivates the Pro-Abortion Movement?

January 21, 2008 - 11:05 am 2 Comments

Pro-abortion advocates are quick to claim that pro-lifers do not care about mothers, but only about the child she is carrying. As the accusation goes, pro-life advocates are said to have no compassion for women and supposedly make no effort to help them. The accusation is far from true.

In fact, the pro-life movement has given rise to thousands of crisis pregnancy centers around the U.S. that offer women an alternative to abortion. These centers provide counseling and support for women who choose life for their babies during pregnancy and beyond. Contrary to many abortion facilities, these things are usually provided at no cost.
